So, I count myself as non-religious but I believe in the Greek Gods 100%. Not a joke.
I’m just really into the mischievous mythological crew. I t-o-t-a-l-l-y buy that the gods trick and punish us (me specifically) to teach us lessons. “It’s the Gods!” I will whisper to my girlfriends over the phone, groaning over an irony that can only be explained by karmaic legend. Sigh. The Gods are why you get a short husband after swearing to only date guys taller than you. They pair you up with that girl in your class you’ve been talking smack about. And they give you a schoolgirl’s crush on someone in a serious relationship after your boyfriend left you for another love. Basically, they force you to face things head on and squeeze appreciative lessons from situations.
*Side: I think the Gods are great on a 1:1 level, but don’t appeal to them on broader, governance-related issues. Like, I don’t appeal to them to punish the CEO of ORNGE. Rather, I realize that I better not sh*t on ORNGE too much, or I’ll one day wake up the head of a Crown corporation. You with me?
Apart from their implementation of karma, I find that the Gods are the best way to deal with chaos and that their relevancy is timeless. Have you ever felt like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? So does Atlas. Ever left something up to the Fates? Me, too. Need a muse? I mean, I hope for heroes and see Titans clashing all the time. omg? OH MY GODS!
